Tulip Fringed Carousel

Second year review of Carousel tulips - even BETTER! Every single one came back even taller, and not a single one appears to have split into non-flowering baby bulbs yet. Gorgeous and unique. Photo below shows early and maturing color blend. Starting ivory (like the creamy part of an elegant crème brûlée) with mere hints of berry striations, the fringe becomes more pronounced, the ivory turns white, and the berry brush mark grow and deepen — even in the vase after cutting! Of all the tulips I give friends as gifts, Carousel is the one they remember and ask for every time. In a bouquet of doubles, parrots, Viridiflora, singles — Carousel is the one everyone asks about. They start flowering a couple of days before, and keep flowering with, my dark purple Queen of Night and new Vincent Van Gogh fringed burgundy tulips. They keep beautifully in the fridge, cut and resting in water, for over a week if you want to hold them before using. The stems are very nice and long. Photos below show my typical experience of 19-20 inches above the ground. Because I’m naturalizing them, I cut them right above their first leaf and still have a foot of stem. In short: BUY these tulips. I’m in Zone 5b and have these planted in a protected area that gets a fair amount of moisture and morning sun.

Absolutely beautiful and one of the latest bloomers in my in-ground planting. They open ivory cream on the yellow side, with tiny flecks of raspberry that grow over time. So far, I estimate they’re at 50% of their bloom strength and still very ivory colored. Gorgeous with light fringe. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was because the photo and description emphasize the end white-leaning color. I expect it will get there eventually. If you’re planning your color scheme, I would consider the Carousel tulip as an ivory/raspberry fringe because of the length of time it remains those colors, not a white/red fringe.
