Around the House: Plan a Walkway Garden

Use Plants to Create an Inviting Welcome

Upgrade the entrance to your home by lining your front walk with decorative foliage and brightly-colored flowers. In this example we have used a combination of carefree summer bulbs and a supporting cast of annuals and shrubs.

On the left are low-growing border dahlias and caladiums, which are the perfect height for edging a walk and following its gentle curve. Closer to the door is a white decorative dahlia just coming into bloom. Together with the white ceramic pot, filled with burgundy calla lilies, they accent the home's pretty white trim. The terra cotta pot holds a pink eucomis, also known as pineapple lily, and behind it is a large pot filled with elephant ears. Closer to the door are more calla lilies.

Let summer-blooming bulbs bring a fresh new look to your entryway this summer!
