A very showy columbine with cherry-red petals surrounding a white corolla. Crimson Star has a neat, compact habit and produces a cloud of flowers in late spring. Hummingbirds love aquilegia and these red ones will be a special favorite.

Showstopper!

Gorgeous blossoms. Reliably booms every year on tall sturdy stems. Regrows after winter (zone7b) and spreads by seed. I used to have bi-annual varieties and don't mind the mixed flower garden so was not surprised and actually was happy to see new plants taking off from seed. But if you prefer a tidy landscape, make sure to deadhead them before seeds ripen.
Deer and geese don't touch them. Doesn't seem to be attractive to bugs/caterpillars either. So all in all a great plant. Cannot tell if it's attracting many pollinators though. One of the reasons might be- not many of bees in the urban landscape in general... :-(

Order arrived quickly on a Tuesday. Planted following Saturday. All have come up, though a little small. Only one looks sickly. Just one green stem with a leaf. Hope to see flowers later this summer.
