Liatris Spicata Blazing Star

Liatris Spicata Blazing Star

(7 reviews) Write a Review

Liatris is an easy, long-lived perennial with wands of fuzzy, violet-pink flowers. This North America native is also known as blazing star and its nectar attracts a wide variety of butterflies. The late summer blooms are good companion for lilies, rudbeckia, dahlias and asters. A long-lasting cut flower, too.

This is my first year in Eastern Montana. Spring was very long in arriving making it late June until I could plant. I'm very impressed how strong the plants are with the weather conditions that we had. The Clematis, Hosta & Heuchera have all been beaten up by wind & heat this summer after getting through the cooler wet late spring weather and the plants are still surviving. The Liatris seems to be so hardy, and a beautiful plant but it is just starting to bloom. It's such a vibrant healthy looking plant with the deepest, brightest fushia/deep lavendar color starting to open - I love this plant. I also love the Peacock Orchids - so beautiful and elegant with good height that blend well with the Liatris. The Stargazer Lilies have grown well and are healthy and have buds on but have not opened yet - I'm looking forward to seeing them. I'm finding which plants do their best in the heat and which ones need a little more shade. I'm looking forward to next year and more bulbs from Longfield Gardens - thank you.

I received 24 of these as a "Freebie" from Longfield Gardens. They grew very tall and sturdy, alongside various ornamental grasses, Bo Bo hydrangea, purple salvia, and purple peonies. Their flowers are a deep purple which looks beautiful in this sunny bed. They last for a month, at least, then dry them, and they will last for years.

This was my first year for a butterfly garden. Liatris bulbs worked out great. Healthy bulbs and grew a little bit taller than I thought but the color of purple added great color.

I placed several orders where I received 24 Free Liatris Blazing Star bulbs. Often Free gifts don't amount to much, but all of these bulbs have done beautifully. They are very healthy and happy plants.
