Tulip Double Early Monsella

This flashy early-bloomer is one of the most popular tulips ever, because it always puts on a great show of color. The canary yellow petals are striped and splashed with bright red flames. On sunny days the blossoms open wide like waterlilies.

    Monsella tulips

Posted by Kerry Onda on May 21st 2022

Denver had a horribly warm winter and drought in spring, and howling drying gales of winds for week after week. I had these in an unprotected area so these tulips struggled for me. They came up maybe 4-5 inches due to both those factors. Even so, these guys made heroic efforts! A couple even had little side flowers. They are majorly colorful and open wide with that starry shape. These flowers look colorful in the photo, and they’re even MORE intense in person. I wish I’d planted them in a more protected spot or given them more water in early spring, because they would have been a carnival. Even so, they were a backyard swingset. Learn from my mistake and give them some protection where some bushes maybe act as a windbreak.

Has stop the car appeal. Many ask what are they and can't believe they are tulips.

    My Favorite

These short babies are show stopping performers for front of the garden, perfect to pair with your muscari, absolutely stunning drawing your attention to the front as the other tulips and daffodils tower them and sway in the wind! Every bulb that came was in perfect condition and they are all blooming!

Monsella has striking red and yellow stripes that got everyone's attention. Truly different and beautiful.
