Tulip Double Early Abba

The bulbs arrived healthy and all of them sprouted. The blooms started early Spring and had a rather orange tone. Now more mature flowers have a tomato red color with bright yellow centers. Very pretty!

The quality of the bulbs ordered is top notch! They are a joy to own and they were a joy to give! I am confident that they are performing well I other gardens too!

Absolutely beautiful tulips. Came up amazingly for the first year. Most of the bulbs I planted came up this first spring and they were big and beautiful. I'd definitely recommend Longfield for buying bulbs. I had much better success with these bulbs then ones I planted from other places. My flower beds were gorgeous and I had tons of flowers to cut and bring inside.

So my area of Denver had an awful, warm, dry, majorly windy winter and spring. It was rough. This tulip didn’t do well for me even though it was in a more protected area, in the middle of a bunch of other double and single tulips that actually did fine). Turns out I don’t like the peony doubles as much as I thought in general. I fell in love with them on YouTube and the photos, but Abba just had some extra unappealing features that made me not want to grow it, even in ideal conditions. Weird, right? So, these guys were stunted, twisted, half dried out amid other tulips that looked fine. Splayed open, they are bright yellow at the bottom so they’re not all red - they're more bicolored when open. Plus, a feature of these peony doubles is that the black stamens poke all around the petals when they’re first budding out so it always looked to me like bugs were crawling in them (even though it was just the stamens). I grew Double Gudoshnik tulips right next to the Abbas, and while they shared some of those normal characteristics that it turns out I simply dislike, the Abbas just grew worse and emphasized the issues. All of this doesn’t indicate a problem with the bulbs — just my opinion of the variety itself when the growing season was stressed.
