Dahlia Dinnerplate Cafe Au Lait

I planted them a little late but there's so many blooms once it starts. I don't disbud the side buds so my cafe au laits are usually about 6-7in in size which is perfect for my vases. Colors range from a ballerina pink to pale peachy white. It's also doing great in amended clay soil zone 7b with about 5.5-6 hours of morning sun.

Summer of 2024 was the first time I’ve planted dahlias. I put two tubers in a large pot and they were huge and gorgeous.

I was a bit disappointed when I received these because there were a lot of broken necks. However, a YouTuber explained that this is to be expected due to the way they are harvested and to have the expectation of getting one good tuber from the clump with the necessary anatomy to grow. I did have at least one good tuber. I cut off all the broken necks (I've left them on before and they rotted) and planted them. I ordered 4 varieties including cafe au lait and all of them are growing!

The soft, coffee hue is amazing. Blossoms are huge!
