The good news is that many plants perform much better once they’ve had a chance to establish. Next season, try adding a balanced fertilizer or compost in spring and keeping the soil evenly moist — this can really help encourage strong growth and more blooms. Dahlias have twice as many chromosomes as most other plants and this makes them inherently unstable. It's the reason there are so many different types of dahlia flower styles and colors.
