An irresistible color for anyone who loves purple. These "spring roses" have shapely buds that open into gorgeous flowers with layers of tissue-thin petals. In areas with mild winters (zones 8-11), ranunculus are planted in fall for early spring flowers. The plants will not survive freezing temperatures, so be sure to provide protection from extreme cold. In zones 4-7, ranunculus should be planted in early spring for summer flowers.

Ranunculus are extremely particular in their temperature requirements. Im outside NYC and there is no way to grow these successfully by simply planting the corms outdoors, that being said, they are totally worth the minimal effort and best of all I get to start my beautiful spring garden in the depths of the winter.. Longfield was great about being flexible with ship date, as per my request. Customer service is easy to reach on the phone and super helpful. Corms were good sized, and even though there were a handfull that were small, there were more than the promised 25, so these were likely smaller corms left attached to larger ones. Almost no claws had broken off in shipping. Im positive these will have a beautiful outcome in April (as long as I dont drop the ball). The attached pic is dry corms beginning their soak

User Error

I think the corms were good, it was just user error. Most of them rotted in the tray that I planted and even after I transplanted them outside I only got 3 little green shoots no flowers. This was my second time trying ranunculus and I failed again.
