Begonia Upright Double Odorata White

These begonias made the most beautiful hanging basket I have ever seen! After spending the winter in my refrigerator, I had another summer of beautiful Begonia hanging plants! The flowers are white with just a touch of pink and cascade over the edge of the basket!

One failed to grow at all so I only had two but overall these grew well and were very floriferous in my hanging planters on a true north facing porch. They were so beautiful and a very clean, crisp true white color that was rarely touched by rain to be spoiled by the weather. I was disappointed it took them a couple of months to take off and hang. I planted them as soon as they arrived early to mid-May and I don't think they bloomed until early August. I will need to start them early indoors to have blooms at the start of the summer. I finally pulled the corms after a couple of days of 20 degree F nights and they looked very healthy up until then. I'm hoping they overwinter well so I can plant them again. As someone who just started gardening a year ago these were very easy to grow and I hardly had to water them. When I did get a bit lazy with the watering the plants very obviously sagged/hung lower than usual to let me know they needed a drink but they never looked wilted. Do deadhead this plant, especially the male flowers, to keep them blooming. I just pulled them and it's two days before Thanksgiving and they still looked great up until getting multiple days of consistently freezing night time temperatures.
