Dahlia Dinnerplate Mingus Alex

I live in NY, border of zone 6 and 7. Its my seond year with them. Its not a dinnerplate, but I have mingus alex blooms on MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND. - earliest dahlia ever- and its not a fluke- every single one is well into bud. They were early last year when Longfield sent them, but this year I warmed up all tubers around mid march and these guys were raging.. super easy, prolific flowering, long stems, makes tons of flowers on long stems, tons of tubers on stout necks. Flowers start dark burgundy and open drying blood red.

I have nearly black mingus alex blooms, unfortunately I am very disappointed at size- this is not a dinnerplate dahlia. it is my earliest most agressive bloomer in June. I have multiple 2-3" flowers from each eye well before any other dahliahs. I bought 3 tubers that didn't come in great shape- I ended up with only two eyes but I reported to longfield immidiately and they stood by their guarantee and I have a credit, so Im very happy. Those two eyes, that I complained about are blooming profusely before anything else. The 2-3" flowers are obviously not dinnerplates, but they are the color advertised. Many small, early, prolific near black maroon blooms on a 40" tall plant that may get larger as summer progresses (im in NY in July). I buy tubers all over town- its not uncommon to have a mislabeled tuber- but in this case they are the color I expected and the plant is the height I expected, so my garden is still as I planned. Im thrilled with the response from customer service and while they are not exactly what I ordered, they are as close to jet black as any flower Ive ever seen, and if its gonna be off, its not off by much. It's a tremendous showing of early multiple blooms. While I question the label, I love the flower and Im not at all upset.

This is definitely not a dinnerplate. The first flower I had is about 3.5" in diameter. It is very pretty and is the earliest bloom among my 10+ different dahlia varieties. I understand that it must be mislabeled as other people said. I'm really curious what her name is. Longfield Gardens, can you please let me know? Thank you!

Love how deep and rich the color was. Got many gorgeous blooms. In zone 10b and it’s almost the end of October here. I am still getting growth and flowers.

The size is all wrong. While the color is as advertised in thr photo, these are quite small (maybe 2” in diameter at most). Even the leaves are tiny, unlike dinnerplate varieties. Perhaps mislabeled? Not the size I had been hoping for, obviously.
